Skeleton is a winter sliding sport that requires a lot of very specialized equipment. Most of this equipment comes with a high price tag, since there are few producers. Sleds cost from $4,000 to $15,000, the shoes are $350. A lot has to be shipped from Europe too. Most annual expenses are travel related.
I pay annual dues for the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Association as well as the Utah Skeleton and Bobsled Association. The Utah association has set up a program to enable athletes to pass donations through the organization to obtain a tax deduction for the donors.
